This is the beginning of a project you could say is in the making for the last 20 years. Is it right then to actually call it a “beginning” then? I don’t know and don’t care.
Hey everybody, this is DocD. I’m a mechatronics engineer, specialised in robotics and control theory. But I have a lot of other interests as well. I like to build stuff, that is why I became an engineer in the first place. But I don’t like to do the same thing all the time, that is why I studied mechatronics, a mixture between mechanical constructions, electrical design and software development.
So professionally as well as privatly I tend to bounce around between lots of different topics, among others:
- Designing models in Blender
- Programming STM32 or ATMega microcontrollers
- Desiging and building my own electronics PCBs
- Building robots and other kind of machines
- Writing code in C, Python, HTML, or whetever is needed
- Making Games in Unity
- And the latest fancy, 3D-Printing

Ducks are some of the most versatile creatures in the animal kingdom. They can walk, swim, dive and fly; only non of it particualry well. I mean, have you seen a duck “walk”, and it honestly amazes me, how they manage to stay airborn.
Anyway, in my opinion, machatronics engineers are the ducks of the technical professions: we tend to do everything more or less competently, but nothing really “perfectly”. A Jack of all Trades, Master of None type of thing. There is always someone else how actually knows all that stuff, we are only scratiching the surface off. But we scratch a lot of surfaces.
This blog will be no exceptions. I started it to have a place to keep track of all my projects (of which they are far too many, if I’m honest), the process I’m making (hopefully) and maybe it might help someone and if it’s only to read, what better NOT to do. So everything you might read here is me in the process of doing stuff, learning, experimenting. So take it all with a grain of salt. If you think “that can’t be right” or “that would be better done differently” maybe you are right. I’m happy if you leave a comment to that point, if you wish.
The projects in this blog might also not be very straight forward or get finished in a recenable timeframe. As I said, I tend to bounce around a lot. Could be I’m working on a 3D design for 4 weeks straight, with regular updates, and than leave it be for the next 6 months doing other stuff. So don’t get impatined, if you are looking forward to an update. Do something else, come back later. It’s what I tend to do.
I will try my best (at least that is the plan right now), to order the single blog posts in cathegories, coresponding to the different projects, so at least they should be resonable good to navigate. Also I’m playing around with tags to identify parts of projects that are more software than hardware, or more concept than assambly. Hope that all works out in the end somehow. We will see.
And with that. Have fun and leave me a comment.
